Sing with me….
“The hills are alive….with the sound of music…aaaaa…with songs they have sung for a thousand years…”
In some ways the Sound of Music, doesn’t feel old enough to be a classic. I remember watching it most years during the holiday season as a child. It was one of those annual rites of passage. But the movie did release in 1965, so it fits.
In case you haven’t seen it, the Sound of Music is based on the true story of a novice nun who is sent to the home of an Austrian widower during the early days of the war to serve as a nanny to his seven children. It is filled with wonderful songs and music from Rogers and Hammerstein.
It’s a romance cloaked in the way the world changes when Austria unites with Nazi Germany. It’s a stirring tale, and the children are priceless. The movie was well recognized for its excellence winning five oscars including Best Picture.
If you haven’t seen it and want a taste, be sure to view the trailer here.

I love that movie. My favorite song is the one the kids and Maria sing everywhere, as she teaches them to sing. And then the one Maria sings in the bedroom during the thunderstorm. The romance just makes me want to sigh. 🙂 Such a beautiful story. And I would have to say my favorite character is Maria. But the youngest daughter is such a cutie. It has been so long since I watched the movie, I can’t remember everyone’s name. 🙂
One of my favorite movies of all time, and Julie Andrews was my idol then. I’ve been so sad for her since the surgery she had left her unable to sing again. What a terrible loss. I loved the children in this movie. My favorite song is Ededweis, oh, I loved all the music. Thank you for asking for comments on this wonderful movie. I’ll come back again to see what others are made.

Funny, my husband and I were just talking about this movie today and why men seem to dislike it and women love it. He says because its too slow and there’s not enough plot conflict.
My favorite song is Edelweiss and the moment where they are singing it on stage while the guards are waiting, still makes me misty-eyed.
