Monday we got 50% of our carpet cleaned. The non-bedroom variety. I just couldn’t stomach the thought of moving everything around to get all the rooms cleaned. But all the living areas were cleaned out, vacuumed thoroughly, and then dry-cleaned.
Isn’t there something wonderful about freshly cleaned carpets? Ours look as good as when they were installed last fall. Fresh, spot-free, and new.
What I really love though is the opportunity to be intentional about where everything goes. Just because
the rocking chair was on the landing doesn’t mean it should go back there. Maybe it’s time to move the antique couch upstairs, and shift the downstairs family room around. There may not be a way to get rid of the treadmill in that area, but maybe we can…disguise…it.
Isn’t that a metaphor for life? Periodically, it’s time to pull out everything that’s accumulated in the nooks and crannies of my heart and mind. 90s college songs sneaking back in (thanks, gymnastics!)? Then maybe it’s time to be intentional about listening to K-LOVE and praise and worship. Gotten a little lax in Bible reading? Then let’s make that a priority. Find a new study that entices me to go deeper.
A cluttered house distracts me. The same thing can happen when my mind and spirit are cluttered. Similarly, a lack of attention leaves the corners out of control. Want to join me in being intentional about what’s in your heart and mind?
