It’s July and thatmeans the countdown to back-to-school is starting. In four weeks my three younger kids start 11th, 6th, and 4th grade. Two weeks later our oldest starts her sophomore year at Purdue. There’s so much I still want to do, but the reality is days are ticking down. But it also means many of us have some sort of vacation or staycation…and for me that means reading. Today, I’m bringing you some of my favorite reads from this summer as well as some great ebook sales. And at the end a giveaway for my latest Guidepost mystery that I co-authored with the amazing Tricia Goyer. So, let’s get started! Storm Rising has it all. Tight pacing, an ensemble cast, and a love story in the making. Ronie Kendig is a master at the military thriller that also has heart. This book will thrill her previous readers and be a fantastic introduction to new-to-her readers. One thing I love about her last series and this one is the way that’s she’s tying Biblical mysteries to the series. It’s Dan Brown like and such a fun read. I also CAN’T wait for the next one. I may need to bug her until she lets me read it as she writes it. Shh, don’t tell Karen I’m saying this, but she is one of my go-to authors when I’m looking for a book that will make my laugh out loud, has great historical details, romance that is just perfect, with a bit of mystery mixed in. I think I’ve said before that I get bored with regular ole romance, and hers are anything but. I really enjoyed More Than Words Can Say. It was so fun to read Zach’s story, since I got to know him in a couple earlier books. He was a rich secondary character, but shines as the hero. Swoon worthy. Then you add this amazing heroine and her sidekick sister, and the plot is rich, the romance sweet, and a fresh take on the marriage of convenience plot. Perfect for those who love late 1800s romances. Best of all, as I write this (7-10), the book is on ebook sale for $1.59. That’s crazy because it just released last month. Be sure to check to make sure it’s still at that price. One Thing I Know was such a sweet romance. I know I said above that I don’t like straight romance, but I gotta tell you that One Thing I Know could change my mind. Why? The characters! I absolutely adored the heroine and the way she grew to lean into friends rather than staying an island. And I loved how the hero was the flipside of her. More like her than he wanted to admit, yet brought out so much good in her. A romance with hints of comedy and a inspirational thread that was beautifully woven. In Living Lies, the author transports readers to small town Georgia where things aren’t as they seem. When a teenager is found murdered, the question becomes why and who. The chain of events launched by the discovery of the body threatens to put Lane Kent’s precarious world in danger. Her battle with depression has almost taken her life, and now she’ll do anything to convince everyone else she is fine. Charlie Lynch has arrived in town just in time to be assigned to the murder, but finds himself intrigued by Lane and her young son. What ensues is a spiraling story of intrigue and romance well worth the read. (And here’s a tip, Living Lies as a paperback is on sale for $7.49 on cbd.com.). Now on to a few sales. I’ve seen bunches of fiction ebooks on great ebook deals this month. Here’s a few to get you started: My Imperfect Justice ($1.99), Beyond Justice and Delayed Justice ($2.99), Tosca Lee’s The Line Between ($1.99), Justice Betrayed by Patricia Bradley ($1.59), Lindsey Harrell’s Secrets of Paper and Ink ($2.99), Moments We Forget Beth Vogt’s latest ($1.99). It’s a great time to stock up! a Rafflecopter giveaway
