It’s Friday, and after a bit of a hiatus, I wanted to highlight a couple books I’ve read lately that I think you’ll enjoy. There have been some good ones, folks! Per usual, these cross several genres, so hopefully you’ll find something to enjoy.
A Defense of Honor is an important story, beautifully told. Touching and relevant to today. The characters will creep into your heart and you will think of them long after you’ve finished reading the story. It shines a light through the lens of history on an important issue
and theme. Set during Jane Austen’s time period in England, it is a perfect read for those who adore a trip to the early 1800s in that country without a time machine or plane. Kristi has become one of my go to Regency authors, joining a short list of Sarah Ladd, Julie Klassen, and Caroline Miller.
Murder at the Flamingo is a delightful read for those who love the glamour of the 1930s. I loved all the references to the black and white classic moves and stars from this time period. There’s such a rich context of this time period that I love! This book is an ode to Boston and a testimony to the resilience of the human spirit. It is a journey of self-growth wrapped inside an intriguing mystery. Who’s the villain? There are many good culprits. But the hero is never in question. Hamesh DeLuca is a hero to love, the question is whether Reggie can see him that way. It also addresses the important issue of pan
ic disorders in a way that is real and moving. A great read for those who like rich historicals filled with mystery set in the 20th Century.
More than Meets the Eye is from one of my favorite authors who focuses on the late 1800s after the Civil War. Karen Witemeyer brings a rich voice to her books that makes them a delightful romp but with lots of heart and depth. I adored the heroine–she is so spunky and full of life. And the hero grew into the man she thought he could be. The development of the story and characters was so enjoyable I kept returning to the story, even when I didn’t have time.
The last book I’ll mention right now is Justice Betrayed by Patricia Bradley.
This was an enjoyable read that kept me guessing with enough clues to leave me uncertain who was behind the murders until the author revealed the true perp. That doesn’t happen often! Rich characters, real-life issues, anda need for the hero and heroine to sit down and talk to each other, but events moved too fast to allow it. Very satisfying mystery with taste of suspense layered over the top. The romance was beautiful!
