Like most readers, I have a list of authors that when a new book releases from them, I know I’ll read it. That list is short filled with names like Colleen Coble, Lynette Eason, Lisa Gardner, and Dee Henderson for suspense. Randy Singer and John Grisham for legal. And for historicals Kristy Cambron, Sarah Ladd, Regina Jennings, Tamera Alexander, Sarah Sundin, Karen Witemeyer and a handful of others. Then there’s the contemporary romance list: Susan May Warren, Melissa Ladd, and others. They tend to keep me happily reading along with new-to-me authors I discover all the time.

Today I wanted to talk about Regina Jennings latest For the Record. I love the sense of fun and community in Regina’s books. Lately they’ve been set in the Ozarks, and they’ve had quite the cast of characters.

I really enjoyed For the Record…it takes readers back to Pine Gap, Missouri. Big Texas deputy Joel Puckett is desperate to prove himself in the tiny town that needs the law. Betsy is trapped in the town that she loves, but she wants to make her own place in the world. The sparks fly as these two interact while Joel is trying to bring law and order to a community that likes to take things into their own hands. Betsy unintentionally creates havoc in his life, and they have to choose whether they’re going to love each other anyway. It’s a fun read, and I loved the glimpse at prior characters — though you don’t to read the prior books to enjoy this one. Perfect for lovers of historical, 1880s romances filled with humor and delightful characters.
