It’s a Book Baby & Giveaway

Cara book news 4 Comments

Any time a book baby launches, I get nervous. Not a little bit. A lot.

There’s a huge part of my heart and soul that goes into the books I write. The characters become real to me — and that means I cry with them and laugh with them. I feel what they feel so that hopefully you will feel it, too. Delayed Justice, releases next week so that means I’m getting all the nerves.

Will people like my book?

Will they like the characters and enjoy the journey?

That means it has been a relief to see these early reviews. One I got on Monday from Publisher’s Weekly has me really smiling. You have to understand that while readers liked Imperfect Justice, the PW review was meh. That just makes this review that much sweeter.

And then there are reviews like this one. There are reviewers that you get to know as a writer. Reviewers who will tell you what they like, and don’t like, about books. That makes it that much more meaningful when they do like your book. Especially when it’s not a walk in the part kind of book.

And this one highlights the spiritual journey. It is a strong part of Jaime’s story, and I really prayed about how to make it organic to the story. It had to feel real and true to life, because her story carries hard truth and experience. I had to honor the experience of those who have lived her story. And that left my knees shaking. I really wanted to get it right.

Also, if you haven’t read them yet, Beyond Justice and Imperfect Justice are on ebook sale for $1.99. That makes this a great time to either pick them up for yourselves or gift them to a friend!

The early reviews have been coming in, and I wanted to share a few with us. I was also at a book fair for Independent Bookstores last week in Minneapolis. It was so fun to connect with Julie and Katherine Reay while I was there. Can I just say these two women make me feel (and look) short! While signing ARCs of Delayed Justice, I got to bring a few home. I want to give one away to you. 1. I am currently between books. My plan is to read The Ornament Keeper by Eva Marie Everson next. She is a new author to me, but the book looks great.

  2. I love how very important you characters spiritual journey is. It helps me see where your priorities are, exactly in the right place. Oh and I can certainly relate to being short!

  3. Oh yes, I am reading an ARC of The Great Lakes Lighthouse Brides Collection of novellas. I’m really enjoying it and lighthouses are fascinating.

  4. I’m not actually in the middle of any book currently, but the next book I’m planning on reading is The Lady of Tarpon Springs by Judith Miller.
