I love this vision board from Jill Kemerer. Thank you so much for sharing it with us! How are the rest of your boards going? Mine is still an idea in my head. Sigh.
Today I wanted to look at one of the practical concepts from chapter four: The idea of defining our dreams.
It’s one thing to say we have a dream. It’s another to define it so we can begin to chase it. So get your pencils, your pretty pens, grab a pad of paper and prepare to write it down. Yes, you. Write down your dreams. You will define the following:
- The what of your dream: a description of what you want to accomplish.
- The why of your dream: and don’t forget to ask God if your agenda matches His.
Then flesh it out. Holley Gerth suggests using this format: I am created and called to express my faith through love especially by (verb ending in “ing”) + (what) + (who) + (how). Her example of her LIFE statement is: I am created and called to express my faith through love, especially by bringing hope and encouragement to the hearts of women through words.
Mine might be “I am created and called to express my faith through love especially by breathing life into long dormant dreams in the people around me by speaking life to them and really seeing them.” Or something like that.
Now it’s your turn. Put pen or pencil to page. Develop your life statement/s. Willing to share? What’s your LIFE statement?

I’m still a little behind on my reading–I’m on chapter 2. But man, this book has caused me to think so much already about the questions you asked about–the specifics of my dream and the motivation behind it. I’ll be thinking about my life statement… 🙂

Can’t wait to see what God shows you, Melissa!
Thanks for sharing my vision board! I was surprised to see so many things on it that I already enjoy. Flowers, family, being outdoors, writing–they make up my life. 🙂
I just finished reading chapter three and plan on getting into chapter four tonight. We’ll see what this life statement ends up being!

Thanks for sharing it with me, Jill. I love seeing people’s lives in this way. Can’t wait to see your life statement! I need to write more of them. I have so many different areas in my life.
I still don’t have the book yet, but everything you have posted so far has been very intriguing…. I thought it was interesting that reading about writing out my life statement caused an immediate gut reaction of “fear”… like, “really? Write it out…. on paper?!?! Sounds like it would be much more REAL that way… 🙂

It is much more real that way! There are some that I hesitate to speak. And I think that indicates an area of fear. Will people think I am prideful? Will God show up to make it happen? Etc.
I know what you mean, Cara, about different areas of life. I decided to write one that could encompass every area of my life!
“I am created and called to express my faith through love, especially by lifting hearts and sharing joy with my family, friends, and readers through my words.”
At the end of the day, that’s my overall goal in life–to lift hearts and share joy. 🙂

What a great vision: to lift hearts and share joy! Love it, Jill.
I found this chapter challenging and thought-provoking. I know that the word “legacy” is woven through my dream. And I filled out the sentence — but I believe it’s only one part of my God-sized dream:
I am created and called to express my faith through love, especially by offering encouragement to others to pursue their dreams by reminding them that they are created in God’s image & can reflect Him to the world.
(I had a more specific statement and made it more general so it was an “umbrella” statement that everything I pursue in life would fit under it, as Holley Gerth suggests on p. 71.)
And I love seeing Jill’s vision board!!

The vision boards are very fun. I love the LIFE statement, too, Beth. I can very much see you actively helping others pursue their dreams. It’s a gift to them!
To me, you’re living that life statement, Beth. Perfect!
Great Idea. I would not know where to even start for such a process. I have many dreams, visions and desires, but how to put it all down on a board or paper, now that is the challenge.
Thanks for sharing

I think you start with a piece if the whole is overwhelming. What do you hope to accomplish as a wife, mother, employee, friend? Do you seem common strands?
