This week’s post is a bit late because I’ve been under the weather. The good news is not leaving my bed unless I had to, means I’ve had the chance to read a couple very good books this week. It also means I get to share some giveaways with you these next couple of weeks. Merry Christmas of books!
The Wedding Chapel is the latest of Rachel Hauck’s novels (and I’m giving a copy away so be sure to go to the bottom!). Like The Wedding Dress, it has historical and contemporary storylines, and two romances developing through the pages of the book. They are connected by a beautiful Wedding Chapel which is a handcrafted demonstration of love that has never been used.The Wedding Chapel is very special. Those with hearts to hear sense something unique and otherworldly within it.
Yet their broken hearts have not found the wholeness of self-sacrificing love. The kind of love that requires full abandonment of self for another.
I found that this novel slowly reeled me in until I hit a point halfway through that I simply didn’t want to put it down. I’d reached the point of connection with each of the stories that I had to know how they were going to play out to resolution. The elderly couple is so sweet. I could easily imagine my Grandma and Grandpa in the roles. And the younger couple will resonate with so many who have been bruised and battered by love that failed them as children. The risks of opening your heart to another when you’ve never had a safe place to fall is heart-wrecking.

I think my favorite fun memory is from my friend’s wedding. Her ring bearer was about 3 or 4 years old. It was a small wedding and do there wasn’t a large bridal party. He kept sneaking around us to the front of the sanctuary and running around the candelabras. We were scared to death he would knock one over and set the bride’s dress on fire! Luckily, it was innocent playing that all could laugh about later.
My favorite wedding memory is singing a song with Roger that he had written just for that purpose.

My favorite wedding memory is from my little sister’s wedding. Bride and groom knelt to take communion together off to the side of the stage and they prayed together while music played. I still tear up just thinking about it, their backs were to the guests, he had his arm around her and she was snuggled against him. It was just such a private, holy moment and they were so generous to share it with us. It was a very special wedding and they are such precious people.

Just married earlier this year! I remember turning the corner with my Dad to head down the aisle, and seeing David and the pastor=) And I remember becoming quite chocked up saying my vows, didn’t expect that somehow!
