Bluegrass Peril, Virginia Smith’s latest offering from Love Inspired Suspense, is an enjoyable step into the Kentucky bluegrass region. We drove through this area in August, so I could picture the rolling hills and white fences surrounding huge horse farms. I wanted to stop and explore them all then, and through this book I can pretend I got to do that for a few hours.
Becky Dennison is a single mom who’s trying to keep it all together for her young sons. One morning she arrives at work and finds her boss murdered on the floor of the barn at Out to Pasture, a retirement farm for successful stallions. Scott Lewis is placed in the management position while police try to figure out who killed the previous manager. Becky and Scott dive into the investigation and all kinds of trouble as they try to find some answers.
The murder investigation is filled with twists and red herrings. The conclusion contained a twist I couldn’t have anticipated but one that fit with the times we live in. I don’t want to say more and spoil the suspense for you J
And the romance is filled with challenges. Becky has to choose between her ex-husband and the future. Scott has to decide to risk his heart that’s already been broken by one woman who returned to her ex. Even though you know they have to get together in the end, the author kept the tension ratcheted up until the last several chapters.
If you’re looking for a suspense to fill a few hours, this one will be a very satisfying read.
